About A Fantastic Sunset
A Fantastic Sunset (1970) is an abstract acrylic painting associated with Alma Thomas's mature style, characterized by vibrant color and patterned brushstrokes. Its title and imagery evoke the experience of a sunset, and the composition includes a glowing red circular form that suggests the descending sun. Created late in Thomas’s career, the painting reflects her enduring interest in color, light, and the natural world.

About Alma Thomas
Alma Thomas (1891-1978) was an African-American artist and art teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century.
